On-page vs off-page SEO simply explained

On-page focuses on factors on your own website that are under your control while off-page focuses on references to your site on other websites, which are focused on promotion that you have partial control.  On-page SEO focuses on things like internal linking, meta description, page speed, content quality, and title tags while off-page SEO focuses on social media shares and backlinks.  SEO is the most effective when both are worked on.

On-page SEO tips I recommend are as follows:

-Have a good title tag since it influences click through rates and is the most important factor of on-page SEO.  Search engines display the first 50 to 60 characters of the title tag so focusing on having good summary here is critical.

-Focus on meta description, which is a brief description that summarizes your webpage and are displayed along with title tag in the search results.  This should focus on additional details that title tag didn’t cover.

-Have a good URL structure.  You should have URLs that are easy to digest and include keywords that describe the content on a web page appropriately.

-Have header tags, which identifies headings and subheadings of your content.  This is ultimately to help search engines digest your content better.

-Start using internal links, this allows users to land on other parts of your website.  Internal links bring value and is very useful for visitors as well when used effectively.

-Learn to use variant keywords.  If your website is about cooking, you should include variants like “how to cook” or “what skills are needed in cooking”.  You should do research on variants frequently.

Off-page SEO tips I recommend are as follows:

-Create social media accounts.  You need to start engaging in other platforms to increase visibility, otherwise they may never see your content.  There are multiple platforms that have consistent traffic, and you need to get your attention.  It’s like having a billboard in a place with lot of traffic to get noticed.

-Create appropriate backlinks.  You need to share links in appropriate places to crate traffic that engages with your content.  You should be sharing your content in appropriate platform and not some random places that may negatively affect your website.
