Muscles that lift your frame like your upper back, core, and chest need to be strengthened and stretched frequently to maintain good posture. Especially more so if you work in a office, because we tend to create that rounded shoulder and hunched back posture when we stare a computer, which can lead to problems like neck pain and increased injury.
The best way to fix your posture and maintain it is to exercise your core and back muscles, but you may also have heard of a posture corrector. These are straps that come in different forms that you can fit over your shoulders or your back. The purpose of these posture correctors is to address muscle imbalances. When you are continuously slouching due to work, your muscles in the front of the chest tend to become tight, while the muscles in the upper back tend to become overstretched. Basically, posture correctors are designed to help activate the muscles that aren’t getting worked enough when you tend to slouch.
Researchers state that these correctors do work, but it is not a permanent fix. Also, it is generally not recommended to wear posture correctors for more than a few hours a day. It works as a reminder aid to correct your posture and it isn’t a solution. They are meant to train your muscles to memorize good posture so that you can remove it after the body adapts. They recommend you start off with 20-to-30-minute increments and adjust, until your body becomes adapt to it. It is also recommended to combine this with posture enhancing exercises like superman, wall angel, goal post squeeze, and planks.
