Hacktivists are a group of individuals that have a common goal. They either promote political agenda or push for a social change and have a common target. Anonymous is the most known hacktivist group. Another famous group is LuzSec that led the attacks against sony, CIA, and fox.
Hacktivist group members don’t need to know each other and most of the time, they have never met. However, they work together to conduct an attack for a common goal. Note that they are motivated almost entirely by political reasons. They are known to be non state actors while advanced persistent threat actors are known to be state actors. Nation state actors work for the country and focuses on missions that steals secrets or disrupts other nations using cyber means.
