End-of-life or outdated components cause numerous problems for security professionals. As you scan regularly for vulnerabilities, you will get lot of flags that you’d have to manually review, cause delays in completing your regular scans, open up potential gaps in overall environment, and put other assets at risk, and more. This is one of the OWASP top issues and improper maintenance of third party components have shown to cause lot of problems.
Problem like this one can only be truly fixed with funding, but can be mitigated as much as possible by security professionals. What security professionals can do about this problem is remove any unused features, components, files, and documentation, continuously inventory the versions of both client and server side, and monitor libraries and components that are unmaintained.
